Between Tradition & Tomorrow is a book series and exhibition design project captivating a journey into the art realm, offering a deep dive into the works of some of India’s visionary contemporary artists.

About Between
Tradition & Tomorrow:

Featuring—Subodh Gupta, Zarina Hashmi, Sheela Gowda, Nikhil Chopra, Shilpa Gupta, Reena Saini Kallat, Sahej Rahal, Asim Waqif, these artists traverse the boundaries of tradition and innovation with finesse and imagination.

Through their art, these artists tend to navigate the complexities of identity, history, politics, and society, offering poignant reflections on the multifaceted reality of modern India.

This project comprises a set of nine books — a main volume exploring modern Indian art, accompanied by eight individual books, each dedicated to a different artist.

While designing the layouts for the artists, I made deliberate design choices to honor each artist’s unique process and vision, while ensuring the books felt cohesive as a collection. I created eight individual booklets, giving each artist their own space and environment. The typography, color palette, and layout were kept simple yet impactful, and the photography was carefully chosen to highlight the essence of each artist’s work.

Artists:

This arrangement also complements the exhibition space, where each artist’s installation stands on its own. Their unique expressions needed room to breathe.

The installations provide an immersive way for audiences to connect with the stories behind the art.

Exhibition Design:

To support the exhibition, I designed posters inspired by Shilpa Gupta’s work named Untitled. Her installation explores traditional and modern narratives, themes that resonate deeply with the exhibition’s core message.
